-Caveat Lector- Voice: Pressure by Republicans to keep Fahrenheit 9/11 out of theaters"Fahrenheit 9/11" is supposed to be opening in theaters across the country today. I was looking forward to seeing it for months.
Now I've learned that I have to go all the way to San Diego to watch it. I wondered why. Then I did my research.
It seems that a PR firm for the Republican National Committee has formed a faux grassroots group called "Move America Forward." There is no grassroots involved in this whatsoever. It's only a bunch of RNC bigwigs in the guise of a bunch of concerned Americans.
This group has proceeded to harass and intimidate theater owners to prevent them from showing this film. I'm not sure if that is the reason why the film is not being shown here in the Valley. It may not be.
Either way, this is truly a disgusting and disgraceful thing to be doing.
Their plan has worked to some degree. Three major theater chains are still not showing the film because they don't want to deal with grief from these people.
I am so angered by this, and any other patriotic American should be as well.
Why is it that these people always want to suspend freedom of speech when others don't agree with their point of view? Why is it that they can only win by keeping people ignorant?
If you disagree with the film or if you don't like Michael Moore, you can stay at home. But why ruin it for others who want to see it? This is not democracy. What the hell is wrong with my country?
I feel like I'm in a twilight zone. I'm praying that everything returns to normal in November.
