--- Begin Message --- -Caveat Lector-Is there a Conspiracy between the Food and Pharmaceutical Industries, the Scientific Community and the Press? By Louis J. de Deaux
July 11, 2004
Is there a Conspiracy between the Food and Pharmaceutical Industries, the Scientific Community and the Press?
An ever-growing amount of evidence certainly points in that direction. Almost on a weekly basis the main stream press releases an article that promotes some food or medicament as a miraculous cure all.
Recent news articles assured us milk and tomatoes enjoy miraculous curative properties. Since this is a recurring phenomenon and one that has gradually increased with the advent of Internet, I decided to give it a closer look.
Very rarely do articles provide a return address for the reporters or editors that produce them, so when I found one with a contact email, I pounced on it. This particular article published a study that claims consuming cows milk reduces the risk of developing colorectal cancer; a proposition I deem preposterous and let the author know so.

Their curt reply was that they limit themselves to publish serious scientific studies and do so with the utmost impartiality.
Hum Could such a laudable posture be true, or is there something going on we dont see?
When confronted, the affable journalist offered to publish a rebuttal, were I to provide compelling evidence in the form a scientific study carried out on a great number of people.
But I am Macrobiotic, I do not consume packaged or frozen foods. I dont drink soda pop or eat hotdogs, hamburgers, potato chips, ketchup, mayo, or the likes. I do not use aspirin, cough syrup, mouthwash, toothpaste, shampoo, soap or deodorants, not even TP. The food and pharmaceutical giants, obviously the people most interested in this type of science, or its results, are not inclined to spend money to study, as far as they are concerned, a non- existent person. They have nothing to gain and everything to loose by financing a study where the results arent likely to flatter them. Besides, the only guinea pig I have to offer is myself. The fact that I have eaten brown rice and vegetables since 1976 and permanently lost over 60 pounds didnt faze this newsperson. The fact that since I became Macrobiotic I cannot remember the last time I became seriously ill, have not been to see a doctor in over 10 years and have not had to undergo any type of surgery, carried less weight for this harbinger of health. The fact that my Macrobiotic diet has endowed me with sterling health, boundless energy and extraordinary clearness of mind, which permits me to think things through and express my self far better than this interlocutor, is meaningless. This wonderful and unique experience was rudely discarded as merely anecdotal, simply because the noteworthy accomplishment was not duly recorded by a recognized scientific entity it is considered worthless. Sorry, was the blunt reply; no scientific study, no press. Bottom line, in the name of impartiality, this news agency shuns fairness and grossly limits the scope of the information it elects to publish.
The only way an alternative health practice like Macrobiotics can aspire to any worthwhile attention in the mainstream press is when someone with the global notoriety of a Prince Charles speaks up.

When he did, well-known and highly respected detractors immediately popped out of the woodwork. I was shocked; not by the polemic stirred up, but by the sides each took. I fully expected an entrenched icon of the oligarchy such as Prince Charles to side with conventional medicine and never dreamt he would favor carrot juice over chemotherapy; what a welcome surprise. I also expected an experienced surgeon like Michael Baum, a person whom for many years has obviously experienced first hand the lethal effects of chemo, and no doubt seen many people suffer and perish from its highly noxious effects, to finally display some gallantry and perhaps say, hey, my medicine isnt working as well as I expected it to, maybe you all should try some carrot juice for a change. But no, it was the other way around.
So when I cheered the kind Prince and firmly denounced Mr. Baum and his colleagues for breaking the Oath of Hippocrates by knowingly dispensing deleterious drug s for profit, I was instantly labeled a ranting lunatic.
Mind you, since the advent of email headline deliveries, everyday I read a great amount of news; believe me, I know whats going on everywhere, all the time. I am one of the best- informed residents of my city, and perhaps country, and by no means consider myself to be mad.
What I am is irate. Irate at medical professionals that continue to prescribe deadly chemicals that do not cure cancer, convert the recipients in living wrecks and often leaves them penniless. Irate at insensitive media outlets that cow tow to greedy corporations in detriment of the general well being.
But unlike others, I have been strictly careful not to receive a penny from anyone. All the expenses that arise from the time and effort I expend are covered from my work as an independent software salesman. I am inspired solely by my vocation to make life better for my fellow human; the information I share and referrals I make are completely gratuitous.
So when I smell a rat, I act assisted by the moral authority I have earned for myself that I believe affords me the right to cry: CONSPIRACY!
It is a waste of time to request a financial investigation of these unethical scientists that hire out their knowledge to the best bidder; never mind they may alter the results a bit to suit specific interest groups. These shady practices have been going on for a long time and will go on as long as human beings erroneously equate success to the accumulation of material wealth; this is old news to the press and public.
But what I will do as long as I am in full possession and sound control of my digits is continue to speak my truth quietly and clearly and demand equal time for natural medicine and non-invasive therapies.
