In Tatarstan these wells have been drilled in basement rock which was broken up so that oil leaked from below toward the surface. Drilling in non-sedimentary rock broken up by meteorites has located oil leaking up into the Canadian Shield and the Swedish Siljan Shield. Although Russian, Swedish and Canadian oil wells in non-sedimentary rock are not yet productive, the cases of Russian, Swedish, Canadian and Vietnamese oil in basement rock prove that oil in sedimentary rock is welling up from below, and oil fields in sedimentary rock should remain productive far longer than thought.
