On July 14th, three items were removed from the Sunshine Project online clearinghouse of US government "non-lethal" chemical and biological weapons documents. The documents were removed at the insistence of the United States Marine Corps, which claims that the papers presence on this website posed a threat to Department of Defense research programs and employees. Because the Marine Corps alleges that posting these materials may result in government employees being physically harmed, the Sunshine Project has removed these items pending receipt of futher explanations from the Marines.
The records that were removed date from 1994 and describe US Army "non-lethal" chemical weapons programs. They propose research and development activities. They are titled Antipersonnel Chemical Immobilizers: Synthetic Opiods, Antipersonnel Calmative Agents, and Demonstration of Chemical Immobilizers.

The Project's reply to the Marine Corps mentions two cases where the US Army has refused to provide information about other US projects to develop and test chemical and biological "non-lethal" weapons. The denial letters can be downloaded here:
1. Letter from Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, dated 28 April 2004, denying release of information under FOIA because the final report of the project Front End Analysis of Non-Lethal Chemicals (an FY 2001 / 2002 program) was classified "secret" in December 2002.
2. Letter from Dugway Proving Ground, Utah, dated 23 June 2004, denying release of information under FOIA because the final report of the project Technical Assessment of Antimateriel Chemical and Biological Agents (a year 2000 project) is classified "secret" (no date of classification given).

Non-Lethal weapons are a precursor to Martial Law
What does the government have planned and going to do to us that's so bad, we may riot? This sounds like another DARPA military project, under Homeland Security. It's not about terrorism and sounds more like terrorism against American citizens.

U.S. Marine Corps Seeks to Censor Sunshine Project Website
2004-07-15 | Citing alleged dangers to US Department of Defense research programs and employees, the United States Marine Corps is insisting that the Sunshine Project remove three US government documents from its website. The situation pits a small non-profit organization that seeks to uphold arms control treaties against the US Department of Defense, which wishes to keep its research on chemical weapons secret.
The documents in question all concern US Army research on antipersonnel �non-lethal� chemical weapons. Items discussed in the documents include the Advanced Riot Control Agent Device (ARCAD) program and the use of synthetic opiates (e.g. fentanyl), tranquilizers (normally used to sedate wild animals), and other drugs as antipersonnel weapons.
The Sunshine Project has established a web page where it will post developments in this case. The web page contains the Marine Corps letter to the Sunshine Project and the Project's response, including recent letters from the US Army denying access to other, secret, documents on US research on �non-lethal� chemical and biological weapons.
Because the US Marine Corps alleges that the presence of the documents on the Sunshine Project website physically endangers US Department of Defense employees, the Sunshine Project has temporarily removed the documents from its website and requested that the US Marine Corps send more information about its assertions.
