-Caveat Lector-
I really have a hard time getting upset about this matter. When I
worked for the Air Force some years ago, I discovered the morning news was
classified SECRET, and that while I could listen to it on my way in to work, the
message that briefed our commander (and had the same info) was highly classified
and had to be kept in the safe. For all I know it was never declassified,
and the morning news for years back is resting in safes all over the
country. I hate to break it to you but most of the stuff that is
classified is about as important as yesterday's garbage. Sometimes I think
they do it to bore any possible spies to death.
I only remember one time when the mistreatment of classified matter might
have been important. Remember when the head of the CIA, one Mr. John
Deutch, took every bit of the CIA's classified material and put it on his
personal computer at home. I can just hear the bit of conversation..."oh,
you should check out my PC. It's really interesting..." I'm sure it
was all very useful. So very clever of him. And even after it was
all discovered and he was relieved and lost his CIA clearance, his clearance at
our Pentagon went on for six months after all that. I've never known
if Mossad considers him an operative or just a good friend.
