In many cases, companies will provide data to the government at mere request. The ACLU cites recent instances in which numerous airlines, including JetBlue, United, American and Northwest, voluntarily provided the government with information about their passengers.
In other cases, the government can simply purchase personal information on the open market. Data aggregating companies, such as Acxiom, Choicepoint, and Seisint profit by collecting detailed personal information and selling it to the government. The ACLU reports that one of the largest of these companies, Choicepoint, boasts contracts with at least 35 government agencies, including an $8 million deal with the Department of Justice.

Blimp plays Big Brother at the Olympics | Sat, 14 Aug 2004 08:32:58 -0400 "Big Brother is watching us," ran the headline in the Greek daily paper, "Ta Nea", last month, when the airship first took to the skies.
One human rights group sought a restraining order, arguing that the blimp, known in Athens as "the floating spy", breached their privacy rights.
