Nebraska Senator Says Offutt has the Resources and Faculties to Host Army National Guard

WASHINGTON, D.C. The U.S. Military is planning a major reorganization of all U.S. Army fixed wing assets and Nebraskas Senator Ben Nelson is supporting Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue as a potential site to serve as a hub base for these operations.

Offutt Air Force Base is a world-class facility with highly trained personnel and state of the art resources and facilities, said Senator Nelson. The base is ideally located for this type of mission and I concur with General Lempke that the Army should consider Offutt as a possible hub base location.

Nelson sent a letter today to Lieutenant General Roger C. Shultz, Director of the Army National Guard, advocating Offutts resources, advantages and potential to serve as a regional hub base in the Army National Guards reorganization plan. Nelson suggested that the Army National Guard seek a deadline extension from the Department of the Army to take time to review Offutt Air Force Base as a possible option for a hub base.

Nebraskas Offutt Air Force Base is positioned in the geographic center of the United States, which makes it a perfect site to support the military and non-military operations like United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM), the Omaha District Headquarters of the United States Army Corps of Engineers, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency Region VII Headquarters in Kansas. The location of the base and the coordinating resources available would make it an ideal location for a regional hub base. Some of the advantages and resources include:

No new construction costs for a hanger, ramp, facilities, and infrastructure (fuel, utilities, etc.)

Already fully integrated and supported tower, security, flight operations, weather conditions, and a passenger terminal

Nelsons letter was sent in support of a June letter by Nebraskas Adjutant General Roger P. Lempke proposing Offutt as a possible hub base for the Army National Guards fixed wing operations.
