(B (JGeorge De Mohrenschildt, the son of a wealthy noble, was born in Russia on
(B (J17th April, 1911. After the Russian Revolution his father, Sergius Alexander
(B (Jvon Mohrenschildt, was imprisoned by the Bolsheviks. In 1921 he was sent to
(B (JSiberia but managed to escape with his family to Poland. His wife died soon
(B (Jafterwards from typhoid fever.

(B (JWhile a young man De Mohrenschildt left Poland and after travelling around
(B (JEurope. He later claimed that he was involved in a pro-Nazi plot to kill
(B (JJoseph Stalin. De Mohrenschildt reached the United States in 1938. The
(B (JBritish intelligence services warned the American government that they
(B (Jsuspected that De Monrenschildt was working for German intelligence.

(B (JDe Mohrenschildt went to work for the Shumaker company in New York. He
(B (Jworked under Pierre Fraiss who was connected with French intelligence. De
(B (JMohrenschildt agreed to collect information on people involved in
(B (J"pro-German activity". In 1939 he went to work for Humble Oil, a company
(B (Jfounded by Prescott Bush.

(B (JIn 1941 De Mohrenschildt went to work for his cousin, Baron Maydell, and his
(B (Jcompany, Film Facts, in New York. Maydell was also known to have pro-Nazi
(B (Jsympathies. During this period he made a documentary about the resistance
(B (Jmovement in Poland. He also failed in his attempt to join the Office of
(B (JStrategic Services (OSS).

(B (Jworked for the oil millionaire, Clint Murchison. During this period he got

(B (Jintroduced to Marina Oswald and Lee Harvey Oswald by George De
(B (JMohrenschildt. On 24th April, 1963, Marina and her daughter went to live
(B (Jwith Ruth Paine. Lee Harvey Oswald rented a room in Dallas but stored some
(B (Jof his possessions in Ruth Paine$B".(Js garage. Ruth also helped Oswald to get a
(B (Jjob at the Texas Book Depository.

(B (JIn October, 1962 De Mohrenschildt became friends with Lee Harvey Oswald in
(B (JFort Worth. He suggested that Oswald should move to Dallas. In February,
(B (J1963 he introduced Marina Oswald and Lee Harvey Oswald to Ruth Paine. On
(B (J24th April, 1963, Marina and her daughter went to live with Paine. Oswald
(B (Jrented a room in Dallas but stored some of his possessions in Ruth Paine$B".(Js
(B (Jgarage. Ruth also helped Oswald to get a job at the Texas Book Depository.

(B (JIn 1963 De Mohrenschildt moved to Haiti. After the assassination of John F.
(B (JKennedy De Mohrenschildt was recalled to America to testify before the
(B (JWarren Commission. He was asked about the claim of Marina Oswald that he
(B (Jknew about Oswald's attempt to kill General Edwin Walker. After giving
(B (Jevidence he returned to Haiti.

(B (JDe Mohrenschildt returned to the United States in 1977. He approached Edward
(B (JJay Epstein complaining that he was short of money. Epstein offered him
(B (J$4,000 for an interview. During their talks De Mohrenschildt admitted that
(B (Jin 1962 he had been contacted by J. Walton Moore, who was employed by the
(B (JCentral Intelligence Agency in Dallas. De Mohrenschildt was asked by Moore
(B (Jto find out about Oswald's time in the Soviet Union. In return he was given
(B (Jhelp with an oil deal he was negotiating with Papa Doc Duvalier, the Haitian
(B (Jdictator. In March 1963, De Mohrenschildt got the contract from the Haitian
(B (Jgovernment. He had assumed that this was because of the help he had given to
(B (Jthe CIA.

(B (JOn 29th March, 1977, Epstein and De Mohrenschildt, broke for lunch and
(B (Jdecided to meet again at 3 p.m. George De Mohrenschildt returned to his room
(B (Jwhere he found a card from Gaeton Fonzi, an investigator working for the
(B (JSelect House Committee on Assassinations. George De Mohrenschildt's body was
(B (Jfound later that day. He had apparently committed suicide by shooting
(B (Jhimself in the mouth.

(B (JWhile the exact sequence of events is not clear because of conflicting
(B (Jtestimony, it appears that De Mohrenschildt and his wife actually went to
(B (JOswald's apartment early in November of 1962 and helped to move the personal
(B (Jeffects of Marina Oswald and the baby. Even though it appears that they may
(B (Jhave left Oswald a few days before, it seems that he resisted the move as
(B (Jbest he could. He even threatened to tear up his wife's dresses and break
(B (Jall the baby things. According to De Mohrenschildt, Oswald submitted to the
(B (Jinevitable, presumably because he was "small, you know, and he was rather a
(B (Jpuny individual." De Mohrenschildt said that the whole affair made him
(B (Jnervous since he was "interfering in other people's affairs, after all."

(B (Jof de Mohrenschildt by the Warren Commission, de Mohrenschildt was rumored

(B (Jintelligence, but his actual role with them was never fully disclosed, and
(B (Jhe emphatically denied any other intelligence associations. He explained his

(B (Jbusiness deals with no political overtones.

(B (JSpeculation also continued about Oswald's relationship to de Mohrenschildt
(B (Jbecause of the contrast between the backgrounds of the two men. De
(B (JMohrenschildt was described as sophisticated and well educated, moving
(B (Jeasily in the social and professional circles of oilmen and the so-called
(B (J"White Russian" community, many of whom were avowed rightwingers. Oswald's
(B (J"lowly" background did not include much education or influence, and he was
(B (Jin fact shunned by the same Dallas Russian community that embraced de
(B (JMohrenschildt.

(B (JThe committee undertook to probe more into the background as associations of
(B (Jde Mohrenschildt to determine if more light could be shed to either explain
(B (Jthe relationship between Oswald and de Mohrenschildt or to determine if any
(B (Jnew information contradicts that which was available to the Warren
(B (JCommission. This probe seemed justified in view of the controversy that
(B (Jcontinues to surround the relationship, and the additional speculation that
(B (Jwas caused by the apparent suicide of de Mohrenschildt in 1977 on the day he
(B (Jwas contacted by both an investigator from the committee and a writer about
(B (JOswald.

(B (Jhotel in Palm Beach. And, I think, he's under a lot of pressure. He comes

(B (Jmorning and I told his daughter that I wanted to talk to him and that I
(B (Jwould be back in touch. He puts the card in his shirt pocket and goes
(B (Jupstairs and blows his head off. And so, I think you have a whole series of
(B (Jlinkages there. He hadn't been a well man, mentally. Just months prior to
(B (Jthat he had been treated for mental problems. So I think the linkage is
(B (Jthere in terms of the pressures being put on him. And I do believe he
(B (Jcommitted suicide. I don't think there's enough evidence to indicate that he
(B (Jdidn't.

(B (Jinterrogator. He began by telling me that De Mohrenschildt had put a shotgun
(B (Jin his mouth and killed himself at 3:45 p.m. There were no witnesses - and
(B (Jno one home at the time of the shooting. The precise time of his death was
(B (Jestablished by a tape-recorder, left running that afternoon to record the
(B (Jsoap operas for the absent Mrs. Tilton, and which recorded a single set of
(B (Jfootfalls in the room and the blast of the shotgun, which was found on the
(B (JPersian carpet next to him. No suicide note or other clue was found. He said

(B (Jtimes, whether I had the black book.
