Probably not many. In Kuwait yesterday at Camp Buehring, Rumsfeld basically told a gathering of soldiers and Marines tough luck, you’re in the army now. “You go to war with the Army you have,” he told them, “not the Army you might want or wish to have.” ( Rumsfeld to troops: You’re all bullet-stopper slaves now ). In other words, the Army the soldiers “have” is not the same Army they were promised when they signed up. But then that’s what happens when you turn yourself over to the government—you become a slave drone and bullet-stopper for the Strausscon version of World War IV. As for those Humvees sans armor, well, when asked about this Rumsfeld essentially said soldiers should expect to get killed. “You can have all the armor in the world on a tank and a tank can (still) be blown up,” he said. Same thing with the Humvees, the preferred target of the resistance because they are so easy to blow up with improvised explosive devices and RPGs. Even so, you’d think the Pentagon would armor these vehicles posthaste. So bad is the situation—and inaction on the part of the Pentagon—that civilians are footing the bill to armor Humvees. For instance, local businesses in Jefferson City, Missouri, bought 13,000 pounds of 1/4-inch steel for Humvees and 5-ton trucks earlier this year ( http://www.ariannaonline.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-6875 .html ). Obviously, the Pentagon is more interested in making sure Halliburton overcharges billions of dollars for reconstruction contracts. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., told Rumsfeld in a letter Wednesday that his response to the question about armored vehicles was “utterly unacceptable” and that it was the duty of the government to provide safety equipment. Dodd, of course, is a Democrat and Democrats, it would seem, have a problem with the Pentagon running the Strausscon occupation on the cheap. Dodd simply doesn’t understand the reality of the situation: these are throw-away soldiers, the Pentagon doesn’t care about them, so why armor up Humvees? As Christopher Bollyn writes, the Pentagon considers soldiers in Iraq “throw-away soldiers.” ( http://www.uruknet.info/?p=m7825 ). Bollyn writes about “a retired Army Major [who] used [the term] in March, 2003, during a phone call to me in describing the attitude the Pentagon had developed toward soldiers in the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan. Remember, in February, 2004, the Pentagon did something it had never done; it replaced an entire army with an entirely fresh army. Why did it do this? The best guess is that Pentagon officers knew that enough men in the original invading force were getting sick from D.U. poisoning that an entirely fresh infusion of forces was required. Now, this fresh army has been in the battlefield for nine months, and is in dire need of being replaced, for the very same reasons.” It’s about time young people get with the program and stop buying into the patriotic nonsense and false promises of military recruiters. Bush and the Strausscons are determined to use up America’s young people like so much kleenex and toss them on the trash heap. Patriotic Americans defend their country against invasion—not fight Israel’s wars against Islam and Arab nationalism. Saddam Hussein did not attack America. In fact, Bush and Crew have yet to provide evidence that Arabs attacked on September 11, 2001. It should not be difficult to read the subtext of Rumsfeld’s message: it’s a volunteer Army, you joined up, nobody twisted your arm, now stop belly-aching and get busy killing Arabs. If only Fox News would report stories like this—thousands of kids would steer away from the military and Strausscon invasions, occupations, and engineered chaos would be impossible. Israel would have to fight its own dirty wars. But since Israel only has a few million people and a few hundred thousand soldiers, it would be forced to make peace and become once and for all a good neighbor instead of a murderous viper bent on forcing Greater Israel on millions of Muslims. It would stop killing Palestinians and stealing their land. Of course, the corporate media, owned by multinational corporations and holding death merchant stock, is not going to tell the truth about Iraq. For the truth, you have to come here—to the internet where bloggers and alternative news sites are not beholden to Bechtel, Lockheed Martin, Halliburton, General Electric, and Boeing.
