ATF SENDS BOMB SECURITY INFORMATION TO SCHOOLS
ATF BOMB THREAT & PHYSICAL SECURITY PLANNING GUIDE
SENT TO OHIO & INDIANA SCHOOL DISTRICTS
Columbus, OH - Richard A. Rawlins, Division Director, Bureau of Alcohol,
Tobacco & Firearms (ATF), announced today that the Columbus Field Division
of ATF is distributing a copy of the Bureaus Bomb Threat & Physical
Security Planning guidebook to all school districts in Ohio and Indiana.
While schools may have previously received a copy of this booklet, ATF is
encouraging the use of the guide to again review the ways to reduce a
schools vulnerability to bombing attacks.
The guide is also available for download on the internet at
www.atf.treas.gov/columbus.
The information enclosed in the guide was designed to help both the public
and private sectors prepare for the potential threat of explosives-related
violence. The information provided was compiled from a wide range of
sources, including the actual experiences of ATF special agents. ATF is the
federal law enforcement agency noted for its explosives expertise, it is
agents, and inspectors are charged with investigating bombing and arson
incidents around the country.
Mr. Rawlins stated, "ATFs National Laboratory and National Response Teams,
as well as its agents and inspectors, are recognized by law enforcement
agencies as experts in explosives and arson incidents investigation." That
expertise, according to Rawlins was used to create the Bomb Threat &
Physical Security Planning guidebook sent to the schools.
"It is our sincere hope that the information presented in Bomb Threat &
Physical Security Planning will serve as a guide to help school
administrators in the process of planning for their schools security
needs. We cannot overemphasize the value of being prepared with a plan,"
said Mr. Rawlins.
