Dear [deleted], California passed strong identity theft protections for you -- and now Congress may take them away because big corporations have gone to Washington asking for "relief" from laws in states like California and Illinois that would put you first. Congressional hearings start Thursday, so we need you to take action right now. Tell your key Representative to pass a strong identity theft bill, not one that is worse than the protections you have today. California already passed a law requiring companies to tell you when your sensitive information has been breached, with no exceptions.  <But the big corporations are opposed to this since it's "inconvenient" and might paint them in an unflattering light if you realized how insecure your personal information is in their hands.>  Under that law, you can control access to your consumer credit files so thieves can't open new accounts using your good name. These common sense ideas - -notice when your financial security might be at risk, along with direct action you can take to protect yourself--  are taking hold around the country. Don't let Congress take away those rights! Tell your key lawmakers in the House to leave your identity theft protections alone!
