The awards have been made to 18 former residents at orphanages run by the Congregation of the Poor Sisters of Nazareth in Glasgow, Aberdeen and Kilmarnock and are likely to open the floodgates for criminal-injuries payments to scores of others. The victims come from all over Scotland and suffered a catalogue of abuse in the homes during the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.
