Tracy Man Wins Fight
Over Weapons Testing

San Joaquin Valley air officials have revoked a permit allowing the
federal government to test its nuclear weapons arsenal near Tracy
after learning the bombs might contain radioactive material like
uranium.
Regulators said they were tipped off by Bob Sarvey, a longtime
Tracy shoe repairman-turned-activist.
"The pollution district agreed with me. There is a health risk
there and a closer look is needed," Sarvey said.
For years, Sarvey has documented activity at Lawrence Livermore
Lab's Site 300 between Livermore and Tracy, where weapons testing
has occured for more than 40 years.
Last year, lab officials applied to air regulators to increase test
explosions from 100 pounds per year to 350 pounds.
Lab officials deny any public health risks. They said it didn't
include the information in its original application because
depleted uranium has such low levels of radioactivity.
The lab said it will appeal.
