I'm glad I avoided watching any of the memorial services...I know there's a place for public grief in the healing process, but we seem to be developing a weird kind of over-zealous public grieving, a standardized response like that of the Pharisees who carefully included a lightly-stitched seam in their robes so that they could easily "tear their garments in grief" without doing any permanent damage to them. Our politicians vie for the role of Public Mourner-in-Chief, and we rate the newsclowns' coverage of disasters by what percentage of the viewers tuned in to the disaster on which channel...
