In the 1980s, Manhattan Borough Developmental Services Office (currently Metro New York Developmental Disabilities Services Office) at 75 Morton Street in New York's Greenwich Village became a hotbed of covert law enforcement and intelligence activity. In alignment with Reagan Administration policies, these forces concerned themselves primarily with "fighting terrorism" and the "war on drugs." "Terrorists," in their estimation, included such persons as the peaceful, humanitarian activists of the Sanctuary movement, including Jack Elder, who had been my friend and fraternity brother at the Catholic University of America in the early 1960s. The power and influence of these agents became weapons in the hands of egregiously unscrupulous administrators. I heard them laugh about the tragedy and disgrace of others. I could almost hear the saliva dripping from their jowls as they gleefully spoke of arrests and strip-searches. I was sickened by their utter contempt for the law -- their strutting, swaggering, snickering arrogance. Indeed, these administrators and ancillary personnel, including the "pool of qualified people" who have tortured me since 1987, may be involved in a cult, secret handshake and all. I use the word "satanic" to describe them -- cynical, with an over-developed sense of irony and utterly unjustified delusions of superiority. Supremely sanctimonious, steeped in moral relativism, they are smug, arrogant hypocrites, contemptuously lording it over those they consider inferior while themselves immersed in perversion. To them, our rights are crimes, their crimes are rights. They are hate junkies, contempt addicts. That's what they live on. They have no respect for any person outside their satanic little circle. They use people and throw them away when they're finished with them. They live for the thrill of a set-up. In a never-ending quest for the ultimate absurdity, they strive for maximum possible evil, setting about deliberately to punish the innocent, reward the guilty, make fools of the wise, corrupt the upright, and turn the very law itself into an instrument of criminality. They have no respect for truth or law. They twist and falsify, turn everything upside-down, inside-out, and ass-backwards. They are consistently sadistic. They can't resist the cheap shot, can't give the sucker an even break. They have to hurt and hurt and hurt, with no limit to their malice, no hint of compassion or forbearance. At the same time, they are insecure and cowardly. They claim to be "demonstrating" their "superiority." I sometimes ask my torturers "Just how much of an advantage do you need? How sick, how crippled, how poor, how isolated, confined, outnumbered, surrounded, does the victim have to be before you feel secure in your `superiority?' How much duct tape do you have to wind around the dog's muzzle, how paralyzed does he have to be, before you consider him safe to torture?" The monsters of Morton Street are, quite simply, the sickest, most perverse, most disgustingly evil and malevolent personalities I have ever encountered. They may not all be alive at this time. Few, if any of them, are likely to be at Morton Street, but these monsters are still very much a part of my life, twenty-four hours a day. I am the primary object of their organized hate, the very center of their sick, twisted universe. They are no damn good. If given the chance, they will corrupt and destroy the world. They've already gone pretty far in that direction. If justice under law will not call these vicious criminals to account for their obscene crimes, I wish God would strike them down, for they represent a danger to everything that's good and gentle and decent in this sad and hurting world.
