-Caveat Lector-

I have just been informed by a company from which I ordered some Y2K items
that their credit card processor (not the bank) has placed a 210 day hold
on all charged funds for Y2K related products. I have heard rumors about
this recently, but this is the first time I have heard about it first-hand.
This puts smaller and mail-order merchants in quite a bind.

I have asked the merchant for more information and am contemplating raising
objections with Visa and Mastercard should this prove to be supportable.
I'm not sure what their relationship might be to the processor, but if they
are not behind it, their positions on the issue might carry some weight.

Has anyone else heard about this sort of thing happening? The credit card
processor is one of the largest in the business. I'm quite sure that it
doesn't take them 210 days to get paid by the merchant's bank.

Who do you suppose is behind this? Why are Y2K purchases being held up,
but not other types of purchases.? Apparently someone at a high level
doesn't want us to be prepared in the event of Y2K related problems.

Any input on this issue would be appreciated.

... Eric
