The American Civil War was quite possibly a use of the very same method. Northern Federalists were backed by the British early in the Republic. Jefferson and Jackson opposed this, as well as the international banking cartel, but fell prey to the machinations of Illuminist Freemasonry, which may have been the covert left arm of the Crown. If so, it would make the North/South split something covertly encouraged early in American history. If not, it would mean that Grand Orient and Grand Lodge Masonry cooperated in an effort to make sure that the new nation was not TOO powerful.
