Yes, Greek. Still, "Revelations" itself is pretty thoroughly Jewish,
repeating (recycling) the symbolism first used by certain OT prophets, but
with an exaggerated "hellfire & damnation" element added by the more violent
revolutionary wing of the Zealots around John the Baptist, whom the Herodians
feared more than Jesus himself. The best part of it --the vision of the
Eternal, the Throne, the Living Creatures, etc-- is pure Kabbalah.
The traditional Jewish view is that "prophecy" ENDED with Malachi, i.e., with
Ezra.
It's the companion book by "John" (likely not even the SAME "John"), the
GOSPEL of--, whose contents and ideas are "Mystery Cult" in spirit -- from a
HELLENISTIC Jewish
sect, influenced by Alexandrian Philo Judaeus and the proto-Gnostics around
Paul.
"John" likewise gives evidence of editing and at least two distinct voices
writing. It owes its "legitimacy" as canon to those pericopes which are
brief and to the point, rather like the episodes in the Gospel of Mark. The
rambling, repetitive LONG monologues from the mouth of "Jesus" are the second
layer, parabolic images literally beaten to death.
"John" reflects the minority GREEK perspective of syncretistic Johannite
"Christians." (You'll note that in the book itself, numerous favorable
references are made to them.)
