Hey--this is Philadelphia! Of *course* he didn't. The judge made some bad mistakes, the DA was obnoxiously racist...but that doesn't mean Mumia is innocent. This is one of the messiest cases ever to come down the pike. Mumia was a fair-to-middling radio journalist who fell into the trap of mixing too much commentary in with his reporting. Finally he got tangled up with Move, and that means automatically that the deck was stacked against him. IMHO, he was, and is, a cop-hater; he was, and is, entirely capable of killing a policeman because, and only because, that person was a cop. Does he deserve the death penalty? No. *Nobody* deserves the death penalty. Does he deserve a new, genuinely fair trial? Of course--the earlier trials were travesties. Do I think a new, fair trial would convict him again?
