WHISTLEBLOWER OFFERS NEW INFO ON CHINESE EMBASSY BOMBING IN
BELGRADE

A mid-level intelligence officer assigned to the CIA persistently
questioned the targeting of a building that turned out to be the
Chinese Embassy in Yugoslavia, but his concerns went unheeded at
the U.S. military's European Command, the WASHINGTON POST is
planning to report in Thursday editions.

The warnings are noted in a classified internal report by the
CIA's inspector general.

NATO war planners say they meant to strike the Yugoslav Federal
Directorate of Supply and Procurement.

But the POST reports that the analyst had "some familiarity" with
the Directorate of Supply and Procurement and was not sure that
his colleagues had correctly located it on a map.

"I'm not sure that's the right building," the intelligence
officer said.

"He was concerned, raised some questions, and they didn't get
resolved," one source tells the paper. Another intelligence
source tells the paper's Steven Mufson and Vernon Loeb that the
analyst "raised his doubts with working level counterparts" at
both the CIA and the NATO European Command in Stuttgart, Germany,
but the questions "were never raised to senior levels before the
strike took place."

GOT INFO OFF INTERNET

A "high-ranking State Department official" tells the POST that an
intelligence officer got the correct address of the Yugoslav arms
procurement agency "from the Internet" -- but then used the
"numbering of buildings on parallel streets to mistakenly
identify a spot on a map of Belgrade."

The bombs accurately hit those coordinates, which turned out to
be the Chinese Embassy.

PAPER: HILLARY TO USE AIR FORCE JETS DURING CAMPAIGN

Senate candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton will do her campaigning
on U.S. Air Force jets, the New York's DAILY NEWS is reporting on
Thursday.

The paper's Thomas M. DeFrank is planning to report that Mrs.
Clinton's campaign will reimburse the U.S. government for future
political stumping -- but not for the dozen or so trips she's
already made at taxpayer expense to the state while mulling her
candidacy.

The paper estimates that the use of Air Force jets costs the
first lady's campaign up to $7,243 per hour.

"The First Lady has signed off on the Secret Service's 'very
strong recommendation' that she travel exclusively on military
planes even after officially becoming a candidate," the paper has
learned.
