-Caveat Lector- Driving home from work yesterday evening I was listening to NPR. They briefly ran a story about an Amtrak derailment. However, NPR mentioned that the wife and children of a senator from Arizona were aboard the train, but were unhurt. The derailment occurred when a large truck was parked across the track and the train hit it. Following up on this in our local paper this morning, I found the following article, but no mention of the senator's family: NIAGARA GAZETTE The National Today July 9, 1999 5A "Amtrak train derails in Texas; 18 injured EAGLE LAKE, Texas -- An Amtrak train carrying 235 passengers struck a truck Thursday, derailing nine cars and injuring 18 people. The eastbound Sunset Limited was traveling from Los Angeles to Orlando, Fla., when it hit the rig shortly before noon, Steven Taub, an Amtrak spokesman, said. Track was torn up and two engines and seven cars were off to the side." Unfortunately, I didn't catch the senator's name on the NPR broadcast. Anybody out there able to fill this in?
