That's easy: ordinary people reproduce; extraordinary people are
more imaginative sexually, more likely to be G/L/B/T. Ordinary
folks don't recognize their polymorphous perversity; extraordinary
people do. Extraordinary people are more likely to be historic
personages; ordinary folk breed and are forgotten. Nothing is
ever accomplished by a reasonable person - to achieve anything,
one must be driven, energetic, possessed of a vision. How many
straight citizens are possessed of visions, are driven by wild
obsessions, have the energy to accomplish the memorable?
Then of course, there's The Conspiracy, who ensure that people of
their choosing are remembered in history. Did any "historical
personage" ever actually accomplish anything, or are they just The
Conspiracy's poster-kids? Since all historical and contemporary
information is controlled by The Conspiracy, everything you "know"
is only what They want you to know. Right now, They want you to
know that Robin Hood was gay. Last week they wanted you to know
that Mir leaks. What will They want you to know next week?
