Plane Believed To Carry Young Kennedy Is Missing

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A single-engine plane which media reports said was
carrying John F. Kennedy Jr., son of the former U.S. president, disappeared
on its way to Massachusetts, the Coast Guard said Saturday.
The Coast Guard has picked up a signal from an airplane beacon in the water
off the eastern tip of Long Island along the small plane's presumed flight
path, said Coast Guard spokesman Petty Officer Todd Burgun.
MSNBC reported that the Coast Guard had picked up a signal from an airplane
beacon off the eastern tip of Long Island along Kennedy's presumed flight
path between New Jersey and the Massachusetts island of Martha's Vineyard.
The reports said Kennedy took off from an airfield in New Jersey Friday
night. Coast Guard officials were not immediately available for comment.
