Brussels: European Commission releases business confidence
report for July for the 15-nation EU and the 11 countries using

Thursday, Aug. 12
Brussels: Exxon Corp. and Mobil Corp. defend their planned
merger to EU antitrust regulators at a two-day closed hearing.

Monday, Aug. 16
Brussels: BP Amoco Plc and Atlantic Richfield Co. defend
their planned merger to EU antitrust regulators at hearing. (See:

Monday, Aug. 30
Brussels: European Parliament committees begin confirmation
hearings on the new 20-member European Commission. Confirmation
vote is scheduled for Sept. 15. (See: TNI EU POL)
