suggest their findings help to explain the functional cortical reorgani-
zation that follows persistent changes of sensory experience, and that the
results may exemplify a more general mechanism that regulates the alloca-

a review of current research on the future fate of the Universe and the
formation of structure in it. Starting from the small size scales of elem-
entary particles, complexity of the Universe seems to increase with the
physical size of systems under consideration. However, theoretical consid-

the Universe becomes simple again: isotropic & statistically homogeneous.

the Universe has the same gross properties as any other. The history and
ultimate future fate of the Universe as a whole depend on how much the
expansion of the Universe is decelerated by its own mass. The formation of
galaxies and their clustered distribution in space depend not only on the
detailed physics of how stars are formed but also on the overall structure
of the Universe. Recent observational efforts combined with theoretical
progress have brought us to the verge of determining the expansion history
of the Universe & space curvature from direct observation, linking this to
