-Caveat Lector- Saturday, 28 August 1999 0:28 (GMT) (UPI Spotlight) WH: Clinton supports ban on creationism EDGARTOWN, Mass., Aug. 27 (UPI) - The White House said (Friday) that President Clinton, while generally favoring the right of school boards to set curriculum, accepts the 1987 Supreme Court ruling that schools are not free to teach creationism. White House press secretary Joe Lockhart was asked for Clinton's position one day after Vice President Al Gore refused to take a clear stand on whether public schools should be required to teach evolution rather than creationism.
