Buchanan Almost Certain to Seek Reform Nomination Wants Labor Democrat as Running Mate--Perot Supports Bid Pat Buchanan is only "millimeters away" from announcing that he'll bolt the GOP to seek the Reform Party presidential nomination, says an article appearing in the September 20, 1999 issue of The Nation. Among the other revelations in the article, "Buchanan Breaks Ranks," by veteran political journalist Doug Ireland and former Nation editor Micah Sifry: Reform Party founder Ross Perot is quietly supporting the Buchanan bid, as is his faction within the party. The Perot camp will sue in court if the Ventura faction tries to change the rules to block a party takeover by Buchanan supporters. Buchanan is seeking a prominent labor Democrat to be his Reform running mate, and has had preliminary discussions with one such person.
