Fitzgerald, a bumpkin? Possibly. He's a suburban, Republican Senator who could
be in touch with his inner bumpkin. Unless you mean Durbin, who's one of those
Georgetown-educated cityboy bumpkins. Or how about that old bumpkin Everett
Dirksen. What a laugh. You Chicago people shouldn't throw stones when it comes
to politicians.
Us downstaters elect a bumpkin? Let's look at the numbers. Chicago, Cook
County and the collar counties contain the majority of the state's population.
Unless your people up there don't vote, where even the dead vote, I find it hard
to see us electing anyone.
Aren't businesses and industry leaving Chicagoland for scenic locals like
Wisconsin and North Dakota? You've lost candy makers and meat processors and
only God know what else since I don't keep up on northern business fortunes all
that closely.
Your intelligenTSia (from the Russian "intelligentsija")* haven't
produced anything of note since imports like Fermi cracked the atom safely,
unless you're including WGN, Oprah and that java joint on Broadway. I do make
the infrequent pilgrimage to Chicago for the blues, but, then again, that's
another product of imports, people Chicago didn't want up there in the first
place (think back to that ugliness in Lincoln Park). Hell, I have St.Louis and
Memphis for the blues.
As for those farm reports, those are necessary intelligence updates for the men
who feed the world. You can always move into your beloved city, stay off the AM
dial or turn off your radio. The FCC doesn't take kindly to folks monkeying
with the freqs.
If Chicagoland seceded, my state income tax would drop and so would my property
taxes. Ciao, Chi-town!
