Another fine example of how "value-free Science" (boiling down to Technology, which historically began as Engineering For WARFARE] gives FIRST PRIORITY to "national defense," with its supposed benefits "for mankind" provided only in trickle-down fashion, as an afterthought, or worse, cleverly using profits from nonmilitary adaptations to recompense the R&D needed for military applications. Rule of thumb: Technology in the public domain --NON-secret technology-- is always about 25 years behind that same technology classified as secret. During that interval, all potential OFFENSIVE applications have already been researched, tested, and were APPLIED -- long before that technology's "invention," by then "denatured," is formally announced to the public. No technology that COULD be used for spying has NOT gone through those stages. For example, when the telephone first became a possibility, IT&T (father of AT&T and Bell Labs) made an agreement with international spymasters that the system it would erect --the first telephone network-- would secretly include the means for intelligence agencies to eavesdrop, WITHOUT TAPS. Adm. Hillenkoetter (an early CIA Director) plainly admitted that in a book published in the middle '70s, and in a conversation I once had with a slightly tipsy, overly talkative senior tech from AT&T, the fact was confirmed. The NSA can do that --electronically but WIRELESSLY (no physical taps) listen in on whomever it chooses-- but not the FBI and possibly not even the CIA, because there are LEVELS of national security and the FBI is nowhere near the TOP of this food chain .... Now. of course, we have Bill Gates (William H. Gates III, William H. Gates II being a merchant banker) and the "phenomenal success" of his Microsoft, an NSA "front" ... Radio and television, by their nature not designed for TWO-WAY communication and therefore less INTRINSICALLY* (i.e., as part of their construction for consumer use) surveillable, have LIKEWISE been successfully co-opted by The Powers That Be for "offensive" purposes, but in a less obvious way -- as tools for "social engineering," opinion-molding, public attitude formation, and emotional reality-making. Radio came into its own with Orson Welles' famous "War of the Worlds" hoax-broadcast; radio's potential for manipulating emotions was not missed by The Powers That Be, who (as Kris can show you, if he reposts earlier docs from CTRL) turned that objective into a science of its own -- serendipitously, before TELEVISION and before THAT medium's even greater potential for "mind control" ...
