Subject: Similar Computer Thefts Go Back A Long Way

I used to be involved with the Green Party of Ontario, I'm not now but
that's a different story.
Anyhow we had this American fellow working with us during an election
campaign who just happened to be a computer whiz and who actually sold us
our first computer.
Anyhow, as soon as the election was over this guy disappeared with the
computer and all of its info, membership lists, etc.
A month later we got the phone bill and guess what? There were a lot of
long-distance calls to Langely W.V on it.
Either this guy was a totally inept spy on his first job, or they were
letting us know they were out there!
This happened in the early 80's, and I haven't been allowed into Amerika
since! Which is not a big deal to me!!
The moral of the story is, keep your membership list away from anyone who
just shows up and is too good to be true!!

During the Central American War, during the period of the CISPES
break-ins, the night before Operation Big Pine (in which American troops
landed a few miles north of the Nicaraguan border in a "joint exercise"
with the Honduran military), Bound Together Books on Haight St. in San
Francisco was broken into through a window that was easily visable to the
every-two-minute police patrol cars that cruise Haight St. at night. There
was enough money in the strong box to get a couple chippers pretty buzzed
or get one serious junky not sick any more. It wasn't touched. As far as
I'm concerned, that rules out all the local heroin enthusiasts. Some
drawers were rifled and a phone list written on paper was left in plain
sight. We took this to be a not so subtle hint from the powers that be. It
had mixed results. It didn't keep us out of the four days of mass demos
that ensued when the troops hit the beach. We did stop leaving money in
the store over night and haven't done so since. Go figure.
