-Caveat Lector-

All the Supreme Court's decision does is to throw the ball back to a lower
court. Mumia and his attorneys have so many petitions before Federal court
that the guy will likely live to a ripe old age behind bars. This is
precisely why it's been noted by more than one observer that the surest way
to guarantee a life sentence is to give a prisoner the death penalty. Mumia
is manipulating the system and manipulating thousands of well-meaning but
ignorant leftists. Sure, the Philadelphia DA and Police Department screwed
up the case, just like they're still screwing up cases right and left. That
doesn't mean Mumia didn't kill the officer. It just means he didn't get a
fair trial, either the first time or the second time.

Yes, the death penalty *is* murder, and two wrongs *don't* make a right, my
Jesuit professors and their Principle of Double Effect to the contrary
notwithstanding. My own personal opinion is that instead of death, we ought
to use complete isolation for life...that is, contact with *no one*. It
would serve people like Mumia right if they had to spend the rest of their
lives with no one to talk to except themselves.
