Well, there's a first time for everything, and I finally find myself
agreeing with Joseph Farah about something--although from the other side of
the mirror. He is absolutely correct about the fascist nature of
"private-public partnerships", otherwise known as the franchising of
America. Just because it has a corporate logo on it instead of a swastika
doesn't make it any the less fascist. As Huey Long said before his
assassination, "If fascism ever comes to America, it will be on a platform
of Americanism." What no one realized was that "Americanism" would mean
*commercial* Americanism rather than *nationalistic* Americanism. We kept
overlooking the obvious--"the business of America is business." "I have
always assumed that what was good for the United States was good for General
Motors, and vice versa." Etc., etc. One of the few writers to understand
what was happening was Jack London, whose *The Iron Heel* deserves careful
re-reading today in light of present economic and political developments.
