More information regarding the Senate's asset forfeiture "reform"
bill that Dianne Feinstein co-sponsored, S-1701 is available at
www.fear.org. To sum up, this bill furthers law enforcement's ability
to permanately seize people's property (including cash) without ever
convicting or even charging a person with a crime.
It's imperative that this bill get defeated. If this passes the current
situation regarding asset forfeiture will get worse. (The situation is
already horrible.) This bill is certainly not reform.
I stongly urge people to call, email, fax or write their Senators and
let them know that they oppose Senate bill S-1701 and support a
companion bill to HR 1658 (a real reform bill recently passed in the
House). Please make others aware of this! Thanks.
