Go to American Reflections - http://markmead.tripod.com/ THE ANOINTED ONE AND AMERICA'S FUTURE - PARTY BEFORE COUNTRY? By MARK D. MEAD - October 23, 1999 American conservatives were, by and large, hooting and hollering and probably many out there celebrated with some champagne when Republicans took over the Congress of the United States in 1994. Finally, we thought, a majority in both the House and the Senate would provide an opportunity to change the nation and steer it in the direction our founders intended it to be headed. But the great opportunity of ’94 has been nothing but a great disappointment, and the Republican leadership has proven to be flaccid. The Party has been weak on Clinton and his corrupt administration; it has been weak on immigration reform, weak on abortion, weak on globalism, weak on campaign finance reform, weak on big government, and weak on the Second Amendment. In place of resoluteness and negotiatory wherewithal, capitulation and equivocation have defined and characterized the GOP since that celebration of ‘94. Thus the rhetoric of congressional Republicans is of a counterfeit credibility, and quite frankly, grassroots conservatives are sick and tired of it. Now the GOP establishment is anointing Governor George W. Bush as their nominee for president. Why? Bush is an “attractive” candidate. It doesn’t matter whether he represents the principles of the Party and its members, and it doesn’t matter if Bush is a big government (a.k.a. compassionate conservatism) man, they just want a winner. They care more about purchasing votes and less about the future of our country. They have sacrificed their own principles in hopes of courting enough votes from Middle America and at the same time sacrificed its own members on the alter of extreme moderatism. So now the muddleheaded Establishment has backed itself into a corner by abandoning its principles and its members, and the plush-bottoms are scared indeed. They fear a legitimate debate on the issues, they fear a legitimate voice of pro-American policies, and oh my, they fear that someone will actually speak with candor to the American people. At the national level, the Republican Party is not a conservative party. Grassroots conservatives are not represented in Washington, which has resulted in historically low voter turnouts. The Party is one that embraces MFN for communist China; the Party wants to bring them into the WTO. Never mind the fact that China is threatening our Panama Canal, or persecuting women and Christians. Never mind that they are pointing missiles at Taiwan and at our cities here in the United States. What’s worse is that this comes after the confirmed reports of Chinese espionage within our nuclear labs. Indeed it is Republicans who are authoring these trade agreements that give China billions of American dollars in trade surpluses every year. How appeasement of communist China will strengthen our nation is beyond me. Is it not frightening, my friends, that the Republican Establishment—our “leadership”—embraces every single one of these policies? Is it not frightening to think of how vulnerable we are under this leadership to these perilous policies which clearly compromise our national security, our territorial integrity, and our national sovereignty? "We should revolt and dethrone this King George," you say. “Let’s get a true conservative in there and beat Bush.” However, the harsh reality hits: the fix is in and Bush’s multi-million dollar war chest is insurmountable. Bush agents have rigged the campaign through backroom deals that prevent grassroots conservatives from being heard. How? Behind the scenes, the GOP establishment is cooperating with Bush’s goons to eliminate all pre-election year straw votes and caucuses around the country. These straw votes and these caucuses are the trumpets used by grassroots conservatives to call other America-Firsters to mount up and fight for the cause of this great nation. We witnessed this gusto by patriots at the Iowa Straw poll this August. It is widely accepted by attendees that Patrick J. Buchanan’s speech was by far the best. Votes were tallied before the speeches, but it was obvious that the majority of the listeners were cheering the ideas of Mr. Buchanan. They were cheering the ideas of economic patriotism, Life, and an America first foreign policy. Instead of protecting the borders of Kuwait, Korea, and Kosovo, Mr. Buchanan called for American soldiers to return and protect our southern border instead - the place absolutely erupted. That the American people have no legitimate choice or representation with presidential candidates is of no concern to the GOP machinery. American patriots and those seeking relief from the duopoly in DC must form a coalition and stand behind their leader, who articulates the American cause and has the God-given ability to defeat the anointed one. The leader who is qualified to do this today is Patrick J. Buchanan. Patrick J. Buchanan gives conservatives and disgruntled Americans that legitimate choice for president. Mr. Buchanan must join the Reform Party very soon to ensure that Americans do have a choice. Put Mr. Buchanan in a debate with G W and Albert Gore and you will see something in politics you rarely see: enthusiasm and an American spirit that reverberates throughout the entire fruited plain. This summer Mr. Buchanan’s younger sister, Bay, told me personally that she is absolutely confident about the future of her brother’s campaign. She said the enthusiasm exemplified by the advocates of the cause “is contagious, it catches on fire and the fire spreads.” This is so true when Pat Buchanan speaks; his following will swell like no other political campaign has experienced in recent decades. When Pat goes Reform, prepare for a campaign of excitement, in which America will have a legitimate choice, feel more enthused, and thus get up and go out to the voting stations. It is high time to send a strong message to the bigwigs of the GOP that we are fed up with their games, and are not going to support them just because there is an ‘R’ next to a candidate’s name. Let’s form that coalition behind Buchanan, because country comes before Party – always! -------------- end ------------------ --------------------------------------------------------------- Linda Muller - [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.buchanan.org --------------------------------------------------------------- **COPYRIGHT NOTICE** In accordance with Title 17 U.
