Sorry if I sounded a bit testy in my response, but I was still recovering, if
you remember, from dealing with Sitchin's version of what HE says the
Sumerians "really" believed ...

I had to put in my two cents in support of SnowOwl's summary of Egyptian
ideas about the earth and sky realms because I've been fascinated by the
Egyptian worldview since childhood and went on to study the subject deeply
for decades, for example reading all the source texts in the "originals"
(often with hieroglyphic dictionary in hand) in order to see through the eyes
of Egyptians as accurately as I could. That subject is therefore rather dear
to me and I feel qualified to provide information on it with some degree of
expertise. (I know ALMOST as much about Sumer, having branched out to that
after studying Egypt -- so that's why Sitchin's claims too often hit a raw
nerve with me.)

The two frames of reference in this thread --what the Egyptians believed, and
what the relatively modern Luciferian (I prefer the less loaded adjective
"gnostic," by the way) wing of Freemasons believe-- are not really in
conflict, since any EQUATING of the two is based on conjecture only, so I was
a bit irritated that I was perceived as "taking sides" for speaking up in
defense of SnowOwl's point, when hoping only to broaden the picture and
clarify it further. Thanks for recognizing what I was up to ...

One of the problems with Conspiracy Theory --one reason why it's not taken
seriously as a legitimate genre of thought-- is a tendency, possibly more
evident in READERS than in writers, to be intellectually lax -- for example,
not making the effort to spell out any assumptions (as distinct from facts)
EXPLICITLY, define terms precisely (which includes qualifying them), specify
the context or contexts involved in argument [there are MANY such contexts,
too often tossed around rather indiscriminately, with lotsa confusion
existing between them, thus resulting in "category error"], note the sources
of one's information (which helps one evaluate their credibility or any
bias), etc -- "rules of the game" that every discipline (EXCEPT "Conspiracy
Theory"!) takes seriously, if only because those rules are the best tools we
have for SHARPENING the mind in order to IMPROVE our search for the truth
(rather than HINDER it through sloppy thinking that's inured to the
illogical, con artistry, overly naive "assuming," and pure "wishful
thinking").
In THIS field, alas, whoever might ask a tightening or sharpening of our
critical faculties tends to be viewed as a CRITIC, antagonistically, so it's
sometimes a thankless task ... I'm just a cranky old fart of a scholar,
elbowing y'all toward holding higher standards.
