-Caveat Lector- Smith Exposes Abortion Industry Profiting from Illegal Sale of Fetal Body Parts http://www.senate.gov/~smith/Releases/Releases/991020.HTM (WASHINGTON, D.C.) � Independent Senator Bob Smith (NH) tonight took to the floor of the U.S. Senate to expose a segment of the abortion industry that illegally harvests the body parts of aborted children. Smith was the original author of the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Bill in 1995, the bill the Senate is considering today. Current law prohibits making a profit from the sale of aborted children. However, loopholes in this law allow wholesalers to circumvent it. �Planned Parenthood, the harvesters and research companies get around the law by saying the parts are donated,� Smith said on the Senate floor. �Unfortunately, the dirty little secret is that large amounts of cash are changing hands. Abortion clinics and the wholesalers are making a killing � literally � off the sale of human baby parts.� According to Smith, one marketer of fetal body parts has admitted to trying to get abortion clinics to alter their procedures to get better tissue, which is a violation of federal law. Smith also highlighted one company, called �Opening Lines,� by displaying on the Senate floor the firm�s price list, which included �$75 for ears, $100 for a pancreas, and $999 for a brain � with a 30% discount if significantly fragmented.� �Another dirty little secret is what the abortion industry calls �dreaded complications,� or what normal people would call live births,� Smith continued. Smith highlighted several examples where babies are in fact born alive and then killed and put on ice within minutes of exiting the womb. �The Government regulates every part of our lives,� Smith said. �It is about time the government started regulating the abortion industry for the sake of the mothers in this country -- the mothers who have suffered alone with the memory of their abortion.
