-Caveat Lector- In a message dated 99-10-30 02:36:51 EDT, you write: << Your possible outcomes are binary: win/lose. Your probability of winning is based on the number of lottery tickets you bought VS. the total number of tickets sold in a lottery. If you bought one, and 150 million others were sold, then your chance of winning is one in 150 million. You're more likely to be hit by a meteorite. Have you encountered any meteors lately? I thought not... >> What is really insane about this whole lottery thing is that the higher the prize, the more people want tickets, therefore the higher the odds. In general your chances of winning a million dollar lottery are much better than the $250,000,000 lottery, but people buy more tickets to have a chance at the $250,000,000 lottery. I mean ... what? A million bucks isn't enough? If I win the lottery, it will be a miracle since I've never bought a ticket and never will. Only gamble on sure things and if it's a sure thing, it isn't a gamble.
