THIS IS A LITTLE PIECE FROM A PERSONAL LETTER WHICH I RECEIVED TODAY

The city of Oslo is now preparing for the visit of the president of the
United States. This is the first time an American president is visiting
out little country, and we have seen nothing like it earlier. It's like
an invasion. First of all he comes with nearly 700 (!) assistants and
security persons and has rented the 35 floor Plaza for his visit. Rumors
tell that you can't get into the hotel without an American passport - at
least it is confirmed that two floors are only accessible for Americans.
People working in some central downtown areas can not leave their
offices between 9 and 14 o clock monday. They are not allowed to stay
for a long time in the windows, they are not allowed to enter their
offices if they are not already there at 9 o'clock. Highways will be
closed (in the rush hour), streets will be closed. Hospitals are
checked. Everybody who can potentially come in touch with the VIP's are
checked. Just in case some terrorist could swim in the sewers from the
fjord and pop up downtown from a the sewers, the sewer lids downtown are
welded! The sewer entrances in the fjord are also welded with steel bars
and US security persons are everywhere. People will be on the roofs with
guns. It will also be forbidden to fly over certain areas of the city.

This is the first time we Norwegians experience something like this. It
is an overwhelming confirmation on the importance of Bill Clinton, of
USA as the nation over all nations and the enormous distance in
importance between a "normal" president/prime minister and THE PRESIDENT
OF THE UNITED STATES.
