British Mercenaries Allegedly Aid Turks

NICOSIA (Nov. 2) XINHUA - A British "security" company has offered Turks
help in destroying vital military targets in Cyprus, local newspapers said
on Tuesday.

Quoting a recent report from the British newspaper Sunday Times, local
papers said that Aims Ltd. of Salisbury in Wiltshire has offered the Turks
expertise and personnel to help them "neutralize" critical military targets
in southern Cyprus.

Cyprus has been divided into the Turkish Cypriots-controlled north and the
Greek Cypriots-dominated south since 1974 when Turkish troops invaded and
occupied the northern third of the island in the wake of a failed coup
seeking union with Athens.

The British "security" company has close ties with Britain's secret services
and the Special Air Service (SAS)'s anti-terrorist unit.

The company, which is currently under investigation by the Scotland Yard,
had proof war between Turkey and Greece, the newspapers said.

The director of the British company insisted that the company had the
approval of the British government.

The newspapers said the company was also willing to "neutralize" suspected
Kurdish bases in Cyprus.

Aims Ltd. is under investigation after the Sunday Times disclosed that it
had plotted to murder Abdullah Ocalan, leader of Turkey's outlawed Kurdish
Workers' Party (PKK) and had been engaged in a series of mercenary
activities. Ocalan was sentenced to death on treason and separatism charges
on June 29 for leading a 15-year guerrilla war for autonomy in predominantly
Kurdish Southeast Turkey.
