-Caveat Lector-
I read *Report from Iron Mountain* when it first came out. Everybody back
then understood that it was a spoof of the Herman Kahn-Henry Kissinger
"Thinking About the Unthinkable" type of book, replete with scenarios and
doomsday analyses. This kind of thinking was more blatantly spoofed in
"Doctor Strangelove", specifically in the character Doctor Strangelove,
played by Peter Sellers. Sure, there was some stuff in *Iron Mountain* that
sounded very much like what was coming from think tanks like RAND or Hudson
Institute, but after all that's what the book was satirizing.
