MEGIDDO - ADL & FBI MERGER -------------------------- PRIVATE ESPIONAGE GROUP FEEDS FBI APOCALYPSE REPORT The FBI is claiming authorship of a new report on potential Y2K terrorism. But it's clear that the FBI had some "help" in assembling the controversial document. EXCLUSIVE TO THE SPOTLIGHT BY MICHAEL COLLINS PIPER November 1999 http://www.spotlight.org Neil Herman, head of the FBI's counter-terrorism division, recently turned in his resignation and went to work as head of the "fact-finding" division of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) of B'nai B'rith. This amounts to an effective "merger" of the FBI with the ADL. That's why it's probably no coincidence that the first major FBI report on the subject of terrorism since Herman went to work for the ADL is nothing more that a carefully crafted rehash of materials and propaganda previously issued in one form or another by the ADL. On Oct. 20, 1999, USA Today lead the national press in hyping a new FBI report entitled PROJECT MEGIDDO, which warned that militias, "hate groups" and Christian religious sects might pose a danger to the public at the coming of the year 2000 (Y2K). (See The SPOTLIGHT, Nov. 8 1999.) The rest of the major media quickly picked up on the story, telling American audiences that FBI Director Louis Freeh was warning police departments around the country to "closely monitor" those who are concerned aout the advent of Y2K. The irony is that while the American public is being led to believe that those in the patriot movement and others who are concerned about a Y2K crisis are somehow planning to commit violence for some unknown political end, the fact is that patriots, instead are largely concerned that potential problems with the Y2K computer bug could create a "panic situation" that would give elements in the government the opportunity to exercise police state powers and eliminate civil liberties in America. In addition, while the FBI report has focused on the so-called "extremists," the fact is that the mainstream media, and many federal agencies, have been quite vocal in portraying and promoting the possibilities of widespread problems such as water and electrical shutdowns and delays in Social Security payments. In response to numerous public and press inquiries, the FBI, headed by Louis Freeh, posted a copy of the PROJECT MEGIDDO report on its official website on Nov. 3, 1999 http://www.fbi.gov/library/megiddo/publicmegiddo.pdf http://TeamInfinity.com/~ralph/megiddo for PLAIN TEXT VERSION While press coverage of the FBI report would lead the public to believe that the report is based on "inside" investigative work by the federal agency, a careful reading of the report will demonstrate that the report is hardly more than a cobbling together of previously published material. Not only does the report contain data that has already appeared in publications of the ADL and its allies at the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), headed by the notorius Morris Dees, but the FBI report actually cites the ADL and the SPLC as two sources for the report. That the ADL is promoting its own agenda through the aegis of the FBI is nothing new. Over the years there has been clear documentation released in a wide variety of Freedom of Information Act requests that the ADL has been secretly providing the FBI data from behind-the-scenes for some sixty years. To the surprise of many people, it was revealed in 1993 that it was actually the ADL that was providing intelligence information on famed black leader, Martin Luther King,Jr., to the FBI. The major media prefers to tell its audiences that "the FBI spied in Dr. King" even though, in fact, it was the ADL that was often doing the FBI's "dirty work." As the cover story in the latest issue of the bimonthly historical magazine, THE BARNES REVIEW, demonstrates, it was the ADL that was the prime source for the so-called "investigations by the FBI" that led to the Justice Department's prosecution of 30 patriotic Americans on trumped up sedition charges in 1944. The ADL's Neil Herman, it should be noted, was in charge of the FBI's controvesial "investigation" of the World Trade Center bombing, but Herman and the FBI never reported what journalist Robert Friedman reported in detail in the Aug.3, 1993, issue of The Village Voice: It is plausible that one of the Arabs involved in the World Trade Center bombing was more than likely a "mole" of Isreal's intelligence agency, the Mossad. In addition, "terrorism expert" Herman has yet to acknowledge the now widely-known fact that the FBI had advance knowledge of the "Arab bomb plot" and did nothing to pevent it. In light of the similar role that the FBI and the ADL (together and individually) have played in infiltrating dissident political groups and encouraging acts of violence, the formal link-up between the FBI and ADL is particularly disconcerting. According to Edward S. Herman of the Annenberg School of Communications at the University of Pennsylvania, writing in his book, The "Terrorism" Industry: The Experts and Institutions That Shape Our View of Terror. "In the United States, the FBI has long engaged in agent provocateur actions, urging violence on penetrated dissident organizations and carrying out direct acts of violence, later attributed to the individuals and organizations under attack." The same can be said about the ADL. In the 1950s, maverick New York publisher Lyle Stuart (who is Jewish) enraged the ADL by unmasking the ADL's role in helping finance and publicize a rag-tag "neo-Nazi" organization that the ADL proclaimed the vanguard of a rising "Nazi threat." Many are fearful that the growing emphasis on "combating terrorism" as exemplified by the ADL-FBI Project Megiddo report-may point to a new wave of FBI-ADL orchestrated acts of violence and provocation designed to create public demand of a crackdown on freedom of speech and assembly.
