Dear Cat:
The manuscript is in NYC right now, in the hands of a proofer and my
literary agent, Tim Hays. Tim is "shopping" it with the big publishing
houses. My last two books were published by a small publisher, Huntington
House (now Vital Issues Press). I didn't want to go with them again because I
ended up doing over 500 radio interviews, and only one TV show (NBC's
"Extra"). The Geraldo and Povich people called them to arrange appearances
and they totally dropped the ball. Anyhow, I'm keeping my fingers crossed
that the book will be published by Christmas, but it looks like that would
take a miracle right now. I don't even have the first galley back for
proofing.

Odom

P.S. To the list, Carlos Marcello was a much-bejeweled short, fat man, who
liked to wear silver-gray suits, and smoke big cigars. I met him in a
restaurant at a motel halfway between New Orleans and Baton Rouge in the
summer of 1971, with a member of the rock band I played with at the time. My
friend's "straight gig" was working for the Bally company, hustling pinball
machines and installing stereo systems in bars and night clubs. Marcello had
some interest in the company. We actually had lunch with him (and about 4
huge thugs, all of whom had been linemen on the Tulane football team at one
time or another). Marcello was nice to us. I was 18 and my friend was 24. All
Marcello talked about was his libido and his sexual appetite for young ladies.
Marcello has been connected to the JFK assassination by several
investigative reporters. New Orleans DA Jim Garrison believed Marcello was
connected to the assassination. Marcello always denied that, but it was well
known that David Ferrie worked for him on occasion. Ferrie was to be
Garrison's key witness until his untimely death. No one ever really found out
what/who killed Ferrie.
