FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AMERICAN TECHNOLOGY CORPORATION AND BATH IRON WORKS, A GENERAL DYNAMICS
COMPANY, SIGN DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENT

ATC's HyperSonic(TM) Sound Prototypes in Evaluation for Use on Naval
Platforms

SAN DIEGO, CA, November 18, 1999 -- American Technology Corporation
(Nasdaq: ATCO) announced today that it has signed a development agreement
with Bath Iron Works (BIW), a General Dynamics company, to create
evaluation prototypes of ATC's HyperSonic Sound (HSS(TM)) which will be
tested for use in various BIW ships built for the United States Navy.

Con Brosnan, chairman, president, and CEO of American Technology
Corporation, stated, "We are very pleased to be working with BIW-General
Dynamics Marine Group on uses of HSS for military applications. BIW
appreciates the unique properties inherent in our HyperSonic Sound
technology."

Mr. Brosnan continued, "There has been considerable military interest in
HSS. BIW, on behalf of General Dynamics, has taken a leadership role in
working with us to help direct our efforts to applications that should
yield early benefits to ATC."

James Baskerville, Chief Engineer, Advanced Technology, Bath Iron Works,
said, "--This technology supports our targeted areas of innovation for
shipbuilding systems which are lighter, more efficient, less expensive, and
improve crews' safety and habitability. Rarely does one discovery satisfy
so many of those categories. HSS(TM) is a game changer technology."

First evaluation units are to be delivered to BIW before the end of the
calendar year.

HyperSonic Sound is an award-winning, patented and patents-pending
technology in sound reproduction that employs ultrasonic tones in a new
process to produce an extremely directional audible sound column in the
air. Audible sound is created only when the column encounters a person or
surface, up to several hundred feet from the source. For the first time,
users can place sound exactly where they want it, rather than broadcasting
over a general area. This control over where sound is placed opens
opportunities for countless new applications for audio.

American Technology Corporation is shaping the future of sound by
developing and licensing its patented and patents-pending technology
portfolio which includes: the award-winning HSS(TM) (HyperSonic(TM) Sound
Technology) and SFT(TM) (Stratified Field(TM) Technology) as well as
MFW(TM) (Magnified Force(TM) Woofer); Jet Engine Noise Reduction system;
and FM Sounds(TM) consumer radio products. For more information on the
