Clinton fails to see charity T-shirt joke FROM JAMES BONE IN NEW YORK THE Clintons' new neighbours in the leafy New York commuter town of Chappaqua have run into trouble with the White House fashion police.
A local educational charity hit on what seemed to be a funny and effective fund- raising idea by selling $15 (about �9.25) T-shirts bearing the US presidential seal and the words: Secret Service, Chappaqua Bureau, Presidential Detail.
The first 11 dozen T-shirts quickly sold out and orders were placed for 36 dozen more, raising thousands of dollars for the Horace Greely Educational Fund to finance college scholarships, but the area's newest residents, Bill and Hillary Clinton, intervened when the White House told the charity that the sale of the T-shirts violated Executive Order 11649, a two-page directive that specifies the proper uses of the seal.
"The idea wasn't even original," said Wendy S. Nolan, a local estate agent who had seen a similar shirt during a presidential visit to Rhode Island. "When we heard the President was moving in, we thought: 'Oh, we should do a shirt for Chappaqua.' "
The Secret Service has determined that the unauthorised use of its name means that even free distribution would be a crime punishable by up to a year in jail and it may confiscate all the T-shirts.

President Abraham Lincoln delivers the Gettysburg Address.
"Four score and seven years ago, our fathers brought
forth upon this continent, a new nation, conceived
in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that
all men are created equal.
Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing
whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and
so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great
battlefield of that war. We have come to dedicate a
portion of that field, as a final resting place for
