Thanks for the post...your praise was much appreciated.
However, I often difer with theorists who, in my view, make too much
of the Queen deferring to the Lord Mayor. The ceremonies by which
the Queen enters the City, though showing a unique deference to the
Lord Mayor also show unique deference to the Queen. After all, regarding
the Lord Mayor, from their site: http://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/
One of the most colourful and ancient of London traditions, the Lord Mayor's Show can
be traced back to 1215 and the charter King John granted the City to elect its own
Mayor.
A requirement of the charter was that the Lord Mayor should present himself to the Law
Courts for approval and to swear loyalty to the monarch. Over the years the procession
grew into a highlight of London's ceremonial year. For many years, until 1856 the
procession would include making part of the journey by barge along the Thames. Now the
Show winds its way through the streets of the City.
The Lord Mayor travels in the ceremonial gold coach which was constructed in 1757 at a
cost of �1,065. Until 1711, when Mayor Sir Gilbert Heathcote was unsaddled by a
drunken flower girl, the Lord Mayor used to ride on horseback. Behind him stretches a
colourful procession of marching bands, livery companies, floats, and people in
colourful costumes. Past Show attractions have included "a lyon and a cammel" in 1602
and, in 1619, an artificial cock crowing and flapping his wings in the procession of
Mayor William Cockayne. Modern Shows now reflect the theme chosen by each Lord Mayor
for his year in office but are just as spectacular as their historic predecessors.
Despite its long history, there have been very few occasions over the centuries when
the Lord Mayor's Show has not been held. Make sure you don't miss the Show - visit the

Dear Mr Miller,
I came across your website after reading your old circa 1985 Project on the
BibleBelievers in Australia website. So I've subscribed. I've read your bi-polar
view, which in my opinion is the most reasonable I've seen.
I wasn't prepared to find such instant confirmation on the internet itself.
I've since looked up The City's (City of London, a/k/a London Corporation)
website. Not only does the "Queen" defer to the "Lord Mayor" there but I also
learned that:
1. The City's police force is separate from Metropolitan London's and always
has been.
2. Local politics in The City are conducted on a non-partisan basis. Neither
Labor or Conservative parties are active there. That makes complete sense. No one
allows their servants to rule them.
3. The City has its own criminal court.
4. The City has posted pictures on its internet site of eco-rioters its police
are hunting from a demonstration last June 18. There's dozens of them.
5. The City (Corporation of London) has purchased and conserved, outside of
its own boundaries, the hunting lodge of Elizabeth I.
Somewhat out of the normal behavior for something that is nominally only a local
govenment. Why shouldn't the national government
conserve a monarch's hunting lodge?
6. The City's own statistics show that it far exceeds New York in every
financial category except stock market capitalization.
So The City has its own geographic sovereignty that is only a bit less veiled
than The Vatican's. Veiled enough to fool the sheeple. But for the "Kings" of the
earth, who all traffic in their own political symbolism, the symbolism and the
underlying reality of power is clear. Especially when they come (are summoned) to
visit.
The City even has its own extraterritorial citizenship in the form of "The
Freedom of the City".
And, lest anyone forget, The City was the target of 80% of the Luftwaffe's
Blitz attacks and also the aiming point of the V1-V2 campaign in 1944.
