-Caveat Lector-

The thing that really got me thinking about the "Real World" was the
statement that Mr. Smith and the Agents were trying to torture Morpheus into
revealing the control codes for "the Zion mainframe."

Plus which, you never see Zion. Any Golden Age sci-fi flick (compare "Star
Wars") would have closed with the heroes landing triumphantly in their
citadel...but "The Matrix" ends with the same version of reality it began
with, slightly amended...or is it?

And the whole notion of the subterranean hovercraft navigating a
vaguely-explained worldwide sewer complex feels sort of odd, as if the
Author hasn't quite thought that part out fully...

The battle scene between the heroes and the Matrix's robots is reminiscent
of the scene in *Fantastic Voyage* where the hyper-miniaturized submarine is
under attack by the patient's white blood cells...and the "sewers" feel
remarkably like blood vessels...

I'll have to watch the movie again to see what else I can pick up. These are
some points that occur to me right off the top of my head. BTW, anent your
comment on Mr. Smith's "humanization"--consider the implications of the
Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle: *observer interacts with observed and
thereby affects the outcome of the phenomenon under observation"...
