Christianity is a "hate crime" to some
--------------------------------------
The top story on WorldNetDaily today asks
the rhetorical question: Is Christianity a 'hate crime'?

The answer: You bet it is -- to some people. Of the anti-Christian groups
who believe this way, the agenda to stop Christian evangelism is running at
a feverish pace.

It is believed that those who hate Christianity may sense an eminent urgency
with the coming of the new millennium. Many of the individuals and groups
who hold such hatred towards Christians have set out to malign Christians
with false statements and baseless allegations in hopes that this will
accomplish their goals.

Others in the radical-left Anti-Christ group have read Biblical accounts of
the anticipated return of Christ as prophesied by Jesus and Daniel; an event
which could possibly take place within the very near future. They understand
that, as the prophesy goes, all wickedness will at that time be done away
with, and good will triumph over evil. Some of the followers of these
left-wing extremist teachings believe they can somehow forestall their
eternal judgement by winning over as many new converts as possible before
the end comes.

The immediate issue in the WND report is the Southern Baptist's plan to hold
its annual Missionary Convention in Chicago next Summer. But the Council of
Religious Leaders of Metropolitan Chicago sent a letter to the Southern
Baptist leadership asking them to consider moving their convention
elsewhere, citing their perceived threat of "violence" which might, they
contend, be instigated against "non-believers" and minorities as a
consequence of the onslaught of Christian missionaries.

Among the council's members is Bishop C. Joseph Sprague who represents 425
United Methodist Churches in the Northern Illinois Conference.

WorldNetDaily attributes Sprague with saying, "the problem is that
proselytizing with the kind of attitude that one group is saved, while
another is in need of saving, can provide 'fodder' for deranged or demonized
persons to attack religious minorities." And, "to suggest that other
religious groups are second-class citizens can be dangerous, because it
feeds into the ideology of hate groups."

Sprague is also reported as saying: "When it comes to Christian views on
homosexuality, the prohibition against proselytizing is even stronger." And
that "Christians who treat homosexuals as second-class citizens are setting
them up for persecution in a 'fear-ridden society'."

This story ties in directly with the recent FBI Project Megiddo report. The
inflammatory attacks and derogatory remarks made about Christians in the
government report mirror the same kind of anti-Christian sentiment expressed
by the Bishop in Illinois. The Project Megiddo report profiles Christian
beliefs and categorically associates these with criminal, bigoted acts of
violence. The report's false implications are based largely upon the same
kinds of spurious allegations as have been attributed to Bishop Sprague.

It's important that the reader make the connection between the two, the
Project Megiddo report and the attack against the Southern Baptists.
