Bill. PROBERS PUZZLE OVER TYSON'S DEAD FERRET By ANDY GELLER Investigators are trying to ferret out the facts behind the mysterious death of one of the wily weasels at Mike Tyson's Las Vegas estate. A second ferret was found alive -- but almost down for the count. C.J. Jones, a volunteer ferret rescuer, said she found both ferrets in a cage -- the live one pacing frantically -- in Tyson's back yard Nov. 18. The dead animal "was just a bag of bones. He was just a skeleton. You could see every bone in his body," Jones said. Jones said Tyson aide Darryl Francis summoned her, asking if she wanted one of the ex-heavyweight champ's ferrets. "He said the animal was not feeling well ... Mike isn't around to take care of it anymore," she said. Jones said that when she arrived, she was shocked to learn that there was no food or water in the cage. "I asked who was taking care of the ferrets and Darryl said, 'That guy got fired,'" she said. Jones said the dead ferret weighed only a pound, about a third of its normal weight. "Neglect was a cause of death. Ferrets only die if they are sick or they're neglected," she said. Jones adopted the second ferret, which weighed half a pound and showed signs of malnutrition and dehydration. "She's just a little skeleton," she said. The ferret-abuse fighter filed a complaint with animal-control officers. If they find the animals were abused or neglected, Iron Mike could face a maximum of six months in jail or a $1,000 fine. Francis did not return calls, and Tyson's manager, Shelley Finkel, said, "I'm not going to comment on anything like that. It's ridiculous. It's crazy."
