Pearl Harbor Revisionism
Welcome to the Pearl Harbor revisionism page. If the name of Admiral
Husband Edward Kimmel means something to you
and you believe that he got a rotten deal from the Administration,
you've come to the right place. And if you don't know
anything about Pearl Harbor and the Admiral, drop in and learn something
about a part of history that certain people high in
our government would prefer to sweep under the rug.
Pearl Harbor revisionism is historical scholarship which disputes the
official Administration judgement that the unreadiness of
US forces when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941
was solely the fault of the local commanders in
Hawaii, Admiral Kimmel and his colleague in the Army, General Walter C.
Short. Pearl Harbor revisionism comes in two
major forms, the First Order and the Second Order.
First Order revisionism holds President Franklin D. Roosevelt personally
responsible for the debacle at Pearl Harbor and
regards him as having used the incident as a means to get the United
States involved in the War and subsequentely used the
Hawaiian commanders as scapegoats to shift public attention away from
the activities of the Administration.
First Order revisionism has two sub-forms, the strong form and the weak
form.
Strong form First Order revisionism holds that Roosevelt specifically
planned to bring about an attack on Pearl Harbor itself. According to
this theory, Roosevelt
deliberately left the Hawaiian commanders in an untenable position while
he backed the Japanese into making an attack, then withheld the
information on the pending
attack from the Hawaiian commanders so that they would be left helpless.
Weak form First Order revisionism holds that Roosevelt was trying to set
up some sort of incident, perhaps an attack on a single ship (like the
Gulf of Tonkin
Incident in Vietnam, which the Johnson Administration used to escalate
US activity in that fiasco), but got more than he bargained for.
Embarassed, he scapegoated
the Hawaiian commanders to cover his own mistakes.
Second Order revisionism blames mismanagement by the Administration
rather than personal malice on Roosevelt's part for the lack of warning
prior to the attack.
Roosevelt's primary moral fault lay in his mishandling of things
afterward to cover the Administration's act by fixing the blame on the
Hawaiian commanders.
Some Second Order revisionists believe that the Administration's
mismanagement was systematic and that no specific person should bear the
preponderance of the
blame. More recent Second Order revisionists, including Edward Beach,
have focussed blame on Admiral Richmond Kelly Turner, whose tyrannical
and overbearing
behavior (the so-called "Mutiny on the Second Deck") prevented vital
intelligence data from flowing to Hawaii.
During the War, national security interests prevented a thorough
investigation of the issue. After the War was over, a new complication
had entered the scene
because President Roosevelt had died in the meantime. Because of this,
the question of responsibility for Pearl Harbor became intricately
intermeshed with
Roosevelt's posthumous reputation.
Many people came to feel that attempts to suggest that Roosevelt was in
part responsible for the debacle at Pearl Harbor were slanders on his
reputation rather than
the sort of legitimate criticism that all leaders should be subject to.
Thus emotional issues overshadowed historical ones and the Hawaiian
commanders found
themselves stymied in their efforts to clear their names in their own
lifetimes. Their descendants have continued the fight to this day, with
only partial success.
Perhaps I should explain why I have such an interest in this issue. The
reasons have to do in part with New Age spiritualism, so if discussion
of religion makes you
uncomfortable, please skip to my list of links to various Pearl Harbor

Pearl Harbor and Me
Or why I am a Pearl Harbor revisionist
In 1992 I reached the absolute nadir of my life. I had lost my job and
was living at home with parents I could not agree with, desperately
trying to find a way out of
the situation without any luck and generally feeling absolutely
hopeless. During that time, I was reading a book about Pearl Harbor and
found myself staring at a
portrait of Admiral Husband E. Kimmel, who was unjustly dismissed from
his post and the Navy for having the misfortune to be in command of the
Pacific Fleet at
the time. As I sat there thinking how similar my own situation was to
his (both he and I had been unjustly dismissed from our positions and
thrown away like trash), I
thought, I can sure understand how you must've felt.
That was when I felt the admiral's voice within my head, asking, So what
are you going to do about it? In that moment I simultaniously discovered
my talent as a
spirit medium and gained a purpose in life. Admiral Kimmel promised to
help me through my own troubles if I would in return seek steadfastly to
clear his good name
and undo as much as possible of the harm that was done to him by his
enemies in the Roosevelt Administration.
I quickly agreed, and soon found myself learning things I'd never even
dreamt possible. In the mortal realm I delved into all manner of books,
developing a
bibliography of materials on Pearl Harbor and evaluating them in
reference to their attitude on who should bear the blame for the debacle
there. Meanwhile I began a
journey of the spirit that would ultimately surprise me. Bit by bit the
Admiral revealed to me various things about the spirit world and what
was to be my destiny.
Finally the Admiral revealed to me why he sought me out -- I am the
reincarnation of his eldest son, Manning Marius Kimmel III, who died as
captain of the
submarine U.S.S. Robalo.
Of course things haven't always been easy. In the mortal realm,
following through on my promise to clear my spirit-father's good name
has embroiled me in more than
one ugly flamewar online, since I kept finding people where were
badmouthing the Admiral on various newsgroups. In the spirit world my
connection with the
Admiral dragged me into the CinCPac War. But I have not permitted these
difficulties to turn me away, reminding myself that anything worth doing
must necessarily
involve some measure of pain.

Recently Congress held some hearings as to whether the Admiral should be

Books continue to come out all the time with more evidence relating to
Pearl Harbor. Here's one that gives totally new evidence exonorating the
Admiral, from a
totally unsuspected area. Advance Force Pearl Harbor
Although I don't agree with everything that's on the Pearl Harbor
Archive, I have to admit as a historian that there is a lot of valuable
material there, some of which is
difficult or almost impossible to find elsewhere. Read it with critical
faculties on.
Aegean Park Press has just issued a new edition of the report of the
1946 Congressional investigation of Pearl Harbor. They are already
advertising it on the Web,
although they don't make it clear whether this is just a summary or the
complete set with all the technical information. If it is the latter,
this would be an excellent
primary source for the researcher.
Here is a sizeable archive of materials related to the various
investigations of Pearl Harbor. There is a lot of primary source
material from both friend and foe, so be
aware of this when you start going through it.
Louisville University has a collection of materials having to do with
Pearl Harbor.
Pearl Harbor -- Mother of All Conspiracies" is a site by a First Order
revisionist who accuses Roosevelt of primary malfeasance as well as
general moral failure as a
human being.
I've also found a number of sites dedicated to the Arizona memorial,
which commemorates those who died aboard the battleship during the
attack.
Pearl Harbor Remembered is a general site about the Arizona memorial.
There is also an alternate site which has some slight differences in the
graphics and layout but appears to be done by the same individual.
The Arizona memorial also has its own home page.
The University of Arizona library maintains their own homepage for the
battleship.
