Perhaps the most significant documents

to ever be offered on eBay,
26 ORIGINAL documents, 1831-1835,
relating to the Texas War of Independence,
issued in Goliad by Political Chief Ramon Msquiz
who then was named Vice Governor of Texas,
all relating to the Texas War of Independence

I am drastically reducing the reserve on the documents, GUARANTEED TO BE
GENUINE, since receiving word that the University of Texas is interested. The
full price, & starting bid, has been lowered from $15,000 to $10,000 (years
ago I refused $25,000). There is no additional reserve. I am placing the
documents on ebay again, hoping that some benefactor might donate them to the
University of Texas, San Antonio, where many of the related documents now
rest. Someone will acquire a priceless treasure. The papers originated years
ago from the estate dispersal of one of the world's foremost collectors and
dealers of rare documents.

The great majority of these documents were issued in Goliad (La Bahia) by
Ramon Msquiz who was in the forefront of events leading to the Alamo,
Houstin and the invasion by Santa Anna. Goliad was cardinal to the Texas War
of Independence.

Years ago, the University of Texas indicated a strong interest in these
documents to compliment their important collection of Ramon Msquiz papers.
Msquiz was Political Chief of Bejar (San Antonio) and Goliad, central to the
Texian rebellion in 1836, then was named Vice Governor of Texas and Coahhuila
before the war. He would eventually sign the Treaty of Capitulation after
Houstin captured Santa Anna. But the documents were not for disposal at that
time, since they were required in my study of the Texas rebellion as an
adjunct to my trilogy of historical novels, Fellowship in Treason. All
universities and civic museums in Texas will be notified of this sale, but
traditionally their fundings are limited, so it is expected that a private
hunter will capture this quarry. Perhaps the winner could present these
papers as a tax deductable donation to a grateful Texas sanctuary.

In the published inventory of Texas War of Independence papers in 1989, The
Bexar Archives, consisting of two archival locations, the University of Texas
at Austin, and County archives in San Antonio, nearly 200 documents are
attributed to Ramon Msquiz, a previous confederate of Stephen Austin, who
was now acting half-heartedly on orders from President Santa Anna regime to
suppress the revolutionary movements of Austin and Houstin.

Msquiz, who had been very friendly to the Americans and desired ultimate
separate statehood for Texas (not independence), wrote to Austin, expressing
disapproval of the convention by American colonists to demand rights from
Mexico. Austin replied: . When Austin was imprisoned in Mexico City, Msquiz
wrote to the authorities on Austin's behalf.

I had a strong purpose in acquiring documents of early Texas, and in
accumulating papers of Edward Everitt Hale (being offered in another lot),
for I was struggling with two decades of research and writing, including a
doctoral study, of a trilogy of historical novels that concerned the travails
of a backwoodsman from a gunsmithing family, Ellis Bean (Tennessee's earlist
family), who was betrayed by the traitorous commanding general of the U.S.,
James Wilkinson (Ellis was captured in Texas on Wilkinson's orders since he
was aware that President-elect Jefferson was strongly involved in this
illegal expedition to acquire Texas for Wilkinson who would be ruler of the
West; Wilkinson intimidated our first three presidents while he collected
bribe money from Spain to have Tennessee and Kentucky secede).

Ellis spent a decade imprisoned in Mexico, where he swore to have vengeance
on Wilkinson, escaped to become a hero with Jos Morelos in Mexico's War of
Independence, brought Morelos son Almonte to safety in the U.S., rescued
Lafitte's men, was responsible for Jackson's victory in the Battle of New
Orleans (arranged Lafitte's flints for Jackson; his uncle was neighbor
Jackson's aide de camp; Ellis was decorated for his action in that battle),
failed in his attempt to track down Wilkinson, returned to Mexico to find his
pappy Morelos executed, tried to revive the war with his comrade Guadalupe
Victoria, married his Mexican sweetheart, Magdalena, was separated from her
by Spanish troops, escaped to the U.s., returned to Tennessee and married
Candace, thinking Maggie had been killed.
Ellis, the original Texian, and Candace moved to Texas when his comrades won
the war, commanded the troops for Austin, visited his old buddy, Victoria,
now the first president of Mexico and discovered Maggie was alive, tracked
down Wilkinson who had been drummed out of the army by Jackson and was
lobbing for a position with Victoria, arranged with Victoria to refuse
Wilkinson, faced down Wilkinson but spared his life, Wilkinson then had heart
attack and died, was buried in unmarked grave, Ellis was awarded an
empresario grant for Texas but this was taken away when Candace announced he
was a bigamist, was given control of Texas' army by his old, ruling comrades
and perhaps would have been the Mexican governor but for his conflicting
marriages, was eventually distrusted by both sides for this reason in the
Texian War of Independence, became a non-person and eventually role model for
Edward Hale's Man Without a Country, would have led the Texians against Santa
Anna except for this mistrust, so his Tennessee neighbor, Houston, was called
in by their mutual Tennessee neighbor, President Jackson, and Bean lost all
chance to achieve fame as the liberating Texian.

Bean retired with only his memories and a shrewish wife who ran off with a
varmint, heard via a newspaperman that his first wife had been seeking him
all these years, returned to her hacienda above Vera Cruz, crippled with
arthritis from his stay in the Acapulco castle dungeon, spent his final,
dying two years experiencing the only true happiness he had known, listening
to warships bombarding Vera Cruz, as the Americans invaded the nation that he
had given his life to save from a previous invader.

REMARKABLY, THIS IS A TRUE STORY; ALL! I have made Everett Hale the aside
detective in this novel, as he seeks the person responsible for protecting
the traitor Wilkinson, a protection that intimidated four presidents. The
answer is finally found. I disclose the culprit and reasons for an
unbelievable series of events that has long troubled historians and puzzled
devotees of George Washington, that Washington would appoint Wilkinson to be
commanding general in the face of evidence that Wilkinson had arranged the
death of his own commander, Anthony Wayne, to step over his body, and despite
direct warnings from Washington's old friends such as Thomas Marshall that
Wilkinson was a traitor, and despite the fact that young Wilkinson in the
Revolution was known to General Washington as a member of a conspiracy to
have Washington removed.

I chose Hale as my moderator because he investigated the duplicity of
Wilkinson, accused Wilkinson and Jefferson of foul play, but had never found
time to write a book on the subject. Aaron Burr, as an accomplice of Wilkinson
, is given strong treatment, as is the uncharacteristic, chaotic behavior of
Jefferson in protecting Wilkinson during the trial of Burr (friend Madison
was shocked at Jefferson's behavior here). I examine Jefferson's complicity
with Wilkinson carefully. The Texas War of Independence is treated in a
meticulous, unique manner, unlike any other account. This may be the first
exhaustive biography of Morelos and his War of Independence. I am now looking
for a publisher willing to attack this massive series of three non-fiction
novels, an expensive project on today's market. I am certainly open to
suggestions.

I am opening the door wider to my extensive collection of significant paper,
accumulated over a period of 30 years from my nationally-recognized auction
house. Some of the items may surprise you, so keep in touch. As many of my
bidders already realize, judging from my multitude of email queries and
friendly exchanges, this is not the usual run of collectibles purveyed by
commercial outlets. It is truly a disposal sale by one who has rounded a few
intriguing corners.

I haven't remotely touched the eclectic range of unusual, unexpected,
unlikely, seldom-seen paper that has been accumulated over so many years,
treasures that reflect the remotest corners of inquiry and collecting. May I
suggest that you become accustomed to the convenient bar in eBay's
introduction, adjacent to my moniker, Spiritof94, the one that reads: View
Seller's Other Auctions. A click of the bar and you can key in to my latest
offerings, which sometimes may appear in other categories, but always remain
convenient for inspection at the touch of this bar. You may be surprised at
some of the off-beat consignments. It will be several months before I can
even log representative items for my different categories. I can now see that
this dispersal sale may take several years and I am enjoying the warm contact
with so many kindred people. Several have shared experiences regarding my
past interests and acquaintances, most recently an anecdote of Captain
Gibson, Last of the 20-Mule-Team Drivers, one of my long-ago auctions. In the
meantime feel free to inquire or feed me your interests. If such items are
available I will attempt to place them near the top of the stack.

My eclectic auction experiences and primer for sellers and bidders, Make a
Killing on the Auction Block, is being compiled for a New York agent. The
book, showing how to guarantee a profit in this traditionally suspect,
imperfect industry, by following the guidance of a few battle-scarred
veterans, with insider's tips, warnings, and detailed how-to steps, including
an exhaustive examination of auction trickery. I devote the second half of
the book to an in-depth analysis of Internet auctions and have some
surprising conclusions for Web browsers, many that run contrary to accepted
and promoted conclusions by others. This will be the first book written by an
accredited real-time auctioneer that compares the two mediums. THERE WILL BE
A PRELIMINARY, LIMITED FIRST RUN FOR EARLY REQUESTS. No deposit or commitment
is required, only your name via email to indicate a preliminary run for the
publisher. Kindly put the word out. Free particulars will be available on
request.

My auction experiences have included discussions with President Nixon
regarding a 1720 colonial Brockport highboy for the White House and his
scheduled attendance, visits and/or bidding by curators of the Smithsonian
(re pristine American Revolution, Civil War & Indian-wars uniforms), White
House, and Senate (1855 Senate desk), threats of lawsuits by Lana Turner
(over our pending sale of her painting in Madame X, consigned by her fifth
ex) and Dorothy Lamour (demanded we not sell her sarongs). Both items were
sold; Lana was furious, Dorothy apologized.

with making the shipping and billing as painless as possible for my wife.

these auctions to extend our personal relationships, to exchange gossip and
anecdotes with the delightful acquaintances we have found in the eBay

collection of unusual, ancient silver coins,
Plus thousands of other relics to auctioned on eBay exclusively.

The auctions will continue for many months, so keep in touch.

Our Mae West roadster has arrived, after nearly a decade-long restoration,
and ABC TV did a special on the delivery, to the delight of my patient wife,
Jane, for whom the unique car was restored. On eBay we adopted the trade
name, Kissell, to denote the classic marque of this 18' boat-tail golfing
roadster, a super Gold Bug custom-built by Kissel exclusively for Mae West in
1927 to surpass anything on the road (the hood is over 6' long). This was the
year that Mae West spent 10 days in jail for writing and starring in the lewd
Broadway burlesque, Sex. Over the past few months we have been successfully
surfing eBay auctions to acquire furnishings for its arrival: flapper
dresses, hats and purses, 1920's golf clubs with tartan golf bags for the
running board holders, watches of the period, Kissell and Mae West mementos,
etc., truly a salute to the incredible selection of period items available on
eBay auctions.
